The pandemic is the focus of the Guardian’s lead story, which has unearthed details of a 2016 exercise aimed at preparing for an outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome – which is caused by a virus similar to the current coronavirus. The paper says it exposed the need for stockpiles of protective equipment, a contact tracing system and screening for travellers, but it quotes campaigners saying politicians and the NHS failed to act.
