The Financial Times leads with a “strong warning” from the Bank of England governor that Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak should not attempt to weaken the independence of financial sector regulation. Andrew Bailey said the suggestion the candidates may allow ministers to block decisions if regulators are not “embracing the opportunities of Brexit” risk damaging the UK’s competitiveness, the paper says.
