The Guardian reports that Ms Truss personally backed cuts to the NHS, writing in a 2009 magazine article that the health service “cannot be put on a pedestal”. In the opinion piece, she also criticised the “inexorable” rise in doctors’ pay, the paper adds. The Guardian comments that the emergence of the article is likely to “embarrass” the foreign secretary.
